Baroň Mojmír, Prof., Ing., Ph.D.

„Making wine is like raising children, both require sensitivity, care and patience.

He graduated from the University of Chemical Technology in Prague. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, where he later successfully habilitated and received the title of associate professor. In the past, he worked as a wine producer and sommelier. He currently works at the Faculty of Horticulture at MENDELU as the head of the Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking.

His research interests include wine technology and biochemistry, sulphur dioxide minimisation and assimilable nitrogen. Professionally, he cooperates with a number of wine producing entities and is active in lecturing and publishing.

„Life is too short to drink bad wine.“

Winemaker from Čejkovice, graduate of the secondary wine school in Valtice and the University of Agriculture in Brno, Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice with a focus on processing of horticultural products. From 1999 to the present day, a family-run wine business, 7 ha of vineyards with a focus on Sauvignon, Traminer, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon.

She graduated in viticulture and winemaking at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, where she continues her postgraduate studies. For several years she cooperated with Volařík Winery as a sales representative. As a taster she evaluates wines at national and international competitions. Currently, she is fully engaged in the Plenér Winery, of which she is a co-owner.

I grew up with wine from a young age, my first intense experience with semi-fermented wine was at the age of eight.

I created my first Cuvée from the 1992 vintage by blending the musts of two virgin harvests of Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc. I wasn’t understood and praised then… The first straw wine in 1994, I was praised several times for that.

After studying at the Wine Vocational School in Bzenec and graduating from SViŠ in Valtice, I started working as a cellar master. First in the Kolby winery and since 2003 I have been making wines at SONBEK in Popice.

Winemaker from Mikulčice, long-time member of the Collegium Vinitorum wine association, founder and chairman of the association Great Wines of Great Vineyards. He founded the family winery in 1995, today the small family winery Dvořáček LTM, s.r.o. produces wines from 2 hectares of its own vineyards. As a long-time wine taster, he judges wines in the committees of major national and international wine competitions.

He graduated from a secondary wine school. He started his journey in the wine industry as a cellar handler. Through his diligence and feeling for wine, he gradually worked his way up to leading and managerial positions. He has always been able to produce award-winning wines at leading wineries, both domestic and international. At home, he manages a small family winery of just 1 hectare, which has made it to the Salon of Wines several times.

He is currently the manager of the VINNÉ SKLEPY SKALÁK winery.

Koudela František, Mgr.

„Good wine cheers the heart of man.“

He graduated from the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University with a specialization in commerce and services. He is engaged in teaching, sommeliering, tourism and cultural activities. In 2009 he was elected chairman of the VOC Znojmo association.

As the chairman of the association, he is responsible for the organization of the VOC Znojmo Wine Festival, which belongs to a unique concept of combining wine and gastronomy. Since 2013, he has been the director of the Sommelier of Moravia competition, which aims to develop sommelierism and support the promotion of domestic wines among young sommeliers. For almost ten years he has also been the director of Znojmo Beseda, the contributory organization of the town of Znojmo for tourism culture. His main task is to promote and develop the tourism environment and produce multi-genre events. By virtue of his position, he is fully responsible for organisation of the Znojmo Historical Vintage Festival, which is one of the largest events in the Czech Republic. He himself is a professional sommelier. In 2013, he won the title of Vice Master of Sommeliers of the Czech Republic, and in the same year he won 2nd place in the competition of sommeliers of the Pardubice Wine Festival. In the Association of Sommeliers of the Czech Republic he is the Director of Education.

Since 2017 he has been a member of the Council of the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic.

Králík Ctirad, Ing.

 

Graduate of the wine school in Valtice. Since 1980, he has been working as cellar master in ZD Sedlec u Mikulova, in the last twenty years also as vice-president of ZD and head of the wine section. In that period, the company has won many awards at wine exhibitions, both domestic and international, including several champions from the most prestigious domestic ones.

In addition, in 2014 ZD Sedlec won the public award at the Winery of the Year competition.

Member of the Supervisory Board of the Union of Winegrowers of the Czech Republic, member of the Board of Directors of the Wine Centre of the Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic, member of the European Order of Knights of Wine, member of the Classification Committee of the SZPI, wine poet and promoter of wine folklore.

Kulhánková Michaela Ing.

 

A graduate of the Secondary Wine School in Valtice and a master’s degree in viticulture and viticulture at the Faculty of Horticulture of Mendel University. In 2019, she was at the birth of the boutique winery ORISEK in Mikulov, which specializes in a single variety – Riesling. Here she works as an oenologist.
In her dissertation and in the winery, she deals with the effect of oxygen on wine and minimizing sulfur dioxide.

He graduated from the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology of the University of Chemical Technology in Prague. For over ten years he has been working at the Institute of Viticulture and Oenology of the Faculty of Horticulture of MENDELU as an assistant.

He is interested in chemistry and biochemistry of wine, especially in the use of chromatographic methods. His work focuses mainly on phenolic substances, antioxidants and components of wine bouquet.

Kutlík Karol, Ing.

„The art of a technologist is to preserve and highlight everything good and valuable that nature has given him in the process of vinification of grapes.“

He graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Technology STU in the field of fermentation chemistry and bioengineering under Prof. Malík. He worked in the Bratislava – Rača Winery as a technologist, in the project organization Potravinoprojekt as a food technology designer, 2 years as the head of the Institute of Wine and Viticulture at the Faculty of Horticulture at MENDELU. He is the owner of PRONECO s.r.o. and UNIMPEX-Bratislava s.r.o. He has been involved in wine technology for over 30 years.

„To be able to produce technologically mastered wine is a necessity for every winemaker. However, the real art is the preparation of wine that can tell the story of its origin, vintage and the winemaker himself…“

He graduated in viticulture and winemaking from the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, where he is currently a postgraduate student. At the Institute of Viticulture and Oenology he is also involved in research projects in the field of wine technology.

In addition to his academic activities, he is also involved in wine in his professional life. Since 2020, he has also been preparing wines in his small boutique winery, specialising in red wines from the Bořetice area.

Winemaker from Milovice, graduate of Mendel University in Brno, Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice with a focus on viticulture and winemaking. He has been working at the CHÂTEAU VALTICE – Vinné sklepy Valtice, a. s. winery as an oenologist for seven years. Among the winery’s greatest achievements in this period are the title of Winery of the Year and two-time champion of the National Wine Competition.

Graduated in Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology in Brno and Food Technology at Mendel University in Brno.
From 2010, she worked in the quality control department at Víno Mikulov. Since 2019 she has been working as an oenological consultant at BS vinařské potřeby s.r.o. She participates in wine evaluation at national and international competitions as a taster. At the same time, she works as the right hand of the winemaker in the Petr Osička family winery.

He comes from Vedrovice, where he has built a relationship to winemaking even in a small family vineyard. He graduated from the Secondary School of Hotel Management and Tourism in Retz. After internships abroad, he started his studies at the Mendel University in Lednice in the field of viticulture and winemaking, graduating with a bachelor degree. Since 2010 he has been working at the Bründlmayer winery.
He sees the field and the work of a winemaker as an integral part of our history and culture, the intoxication of the present and the responsibility to pass on traditions and cultural values to future generations.

After completing his high school education and subsequent work experience in a wine company, he founded the family winery Sedlák with his cousin in 2007. They farm 25 hectares in the village of Velké Bílovice and strive to produce high quality wines, especially for the gastronomy industry, where they appreciate the quality of dry wines. His passion is discovering new wines and world wine regions.

Membership of the Union of Oenologists is both a great experience and an honour for the winemaker.

Smrčka Jakub, Ing.

„Everything in order. Let’s have champagne first.“

Like many other winemakers, he got his first experience with wine from his grandfather. This gave him a great practical basis for further studies. He studied viticulture and winemaking at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice. He gained extensive experience by working for three years at Znovín Znojmo a.s., where he held the position of oenologist. Since January 2019, he has taken over the role of chief oenologist at THAYA winery. The winery emphasizes the traditional technology of wine production in wooden barrels or concrete tanks.

In addition to active participation in prestigious wine competitions, he is also dedicated to the education of small wine producers in the Znojmo region. In the technology of wine production, he is mainly involved in the production and maturing of wines in barrels and is looking for ways to make great wines from the vineyards around the Podyjí National Park.

„Heart to wine, wine to hearts.“

Winemaker from Velké Pavlovice, graduate of the Secondary Agricultural Technical School in Valtice and the University of Agriculture in Brno, Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice. From 1985 to 1996, he was an employee of Moravian Winery (later Vinia a. s. Velké Pavlovice).

From 1996 to 2012 he worked as an inspector of the wine department at the State Agricultural and Food Inspection in Brno. Since 2012, he has been self-employed as a consultant in the wine industry, at the same time he is part of the family winery Suský in Velké Pavlovice, and since 2015 he has been working as a company director and technologist at the family winery Jedlička, Bořetice a. s. This family winery manages 45 ha of vineyards in organic mode, annual production of about 150,000 bottles, sales mainly to gastronomy.

Specialization in blue grape varieties processed by long maceration and white wines with a strong influence of terroir.

Winemaker from Pavlov, graduate of the Secondary Wine School and Higher Vocational School, majoring in Plant Cultivation. Currently a distance student at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, majoring in Viticulture and Winemaking. Member of the wine association in Pavlov Vinitores Palaviensis and the Union of Oenologists. He holds a certificate for sensory assessment of wine quality II. In 2008 he joined a family company with an annual production of 140 thousand bottles as cellar master.
